Exploited / GH-11
Artist: Lorenz Rhode
Title: Motor Cortex EP
Street Date Vinyl: February 11th, 2009
Comes with Remixes from Minimow&Solo (aka Mowgli&Solo), Ben Mono
Originally starting as a House kid, Lorenz Rhode (from Düsseldorf, Germany) has evolved his music into a custom blend of influences over the years.
Think one part Electro Funk, one part 80's synthesizer Megalomania, one part old school House music, a Soul feel, occasional Krautrock or J-Pop glimpses and a certain weirdness. Or if you prefer name dropping: Rick James dating Chaka Khan, dancing to Daft Punk and Technotronic, making sweet love to a Stevie Wonder ballad, when suddenly a group of German robots and a Yellow Magic Orchestra come rushing into the hotel suite and... they all decide to go to France instead. Like that.
Lorenz Rhode plays classical piano and drums, loves keyboards, tries to combine musical complexity with the straightness of club music, and still thinks synth solos are a good thing. Sometimes.
His recent collaborations with the famed Compost Records label (check out his supercool SHAKE IT-12”) introduced him to a wider audience.
Now he's back with a new EP on Shir Khan's rapidly rising Exploited Records and hopes you like it!
The Vinyl comes with a stripped down version from Italian Bad Boys Mowgli (who now uses the name Minimow for more minimal productions) and Solo from the London label Fresh Fish. As digital bonus we have one remix from german producer Ben Mono (who also plays guitar for the bavarian Gomma-boys Munk) and one from Lorenz Rhode himself: ‘Kinky and The Grain’ – a true Krautrock meets DAF-experience.
